Your Wingman

You and your wingmen trust your very being to each other. Guard this pact well. Because after the battle is done, if one of them is not alive, nobody is left to pick you up from that rock - Except the enemy.....A wing of mediocre pilots that works together can defeat superior ones that do not. (Of course we have no mediocre warriors!)

       The Star

The Star is the sum of all the mechs in the field together at one time. This is also called a wing. In most cases it will be between 2 and 4 mechs on each side. The Wing will be lead by one leader, who gives orders. If he is killed then the next ranked person in the star takes command until they are victorious or all are dead.

Follow the wing commander's orders at all times and stay in formation. If he or she gives no orders then fall into a loose wing behind the wing commander, keeping the bigger tactical mechs towards the back. DO NOT EVER STRAY OFF ON YOUR OWN UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Once you get yourself killed (and you will if you charge an IS lance alone) then your star is a mech short and may also die from your stupidity. And then I will revoke your warrior status.

Watch your speed. If you are in a 45 ton mech on point position, don't expect that Thor behind you to keep up with you, if you run full throttle. Once you engage the enemy, then of course throttle up for sure.

Working together is very important. Never take a shot when your wingman is not clear. And remember lag too. Don't accidentally lag shoot your wingman. I have been taken down many times by wingman's shots in the back. (It is rather irritating and friendly fire is not really friendly.)

Don't try to be a glory hog. If your mech is hot then GET OUT OF THE WAY and let your wingman fire. Many times I have been circling in a cold mech while my wingman blocked my firing position but never fired. (And yes I was tempted but I never did!)

       Tactics

Try to single out enemy mechs one at a time and attack them all together. You will be amazed how fast a mech goes down when 3 mechs fire on it. When you put one out of commission then move on to the next. Taking down the big mechs with massive firepower first is a good idea, although things don't always work out that way. Do this with vigor and ferocity. If you mess around in battle it will be over and you will be looking at the sky before you know it started.

Circling a mech with 2 or more mechs can be a bit tricky. If two smaller mechs are used. The smallest takes a circle closer to the enemy and the larger mech stays more to the outside, that way you are not smashing into each other. If a large tactical mech is used then it should stay farther out and use longer range weapons such as missiles.

Use terrain when you can. Whenever possible, get your big tactical mechs against a wall or mountain or in a ditch or something and get missile locks and fire safely over it at the enemy without exposing yourself. If you are in a smaller close range mech just standby and let them soften up the enemy. If the enemy tries to rush your support mechs, be ready to intercept them. Then hold them out in the open and the big mechs will continue to support you.

If you find your mech without weapons then use it's chassis. Continue to smash into the enemy and disorient him. This will greatly help your wingmen. If you have jump jets try to hop onto the enemy. Use your mech's chasis until your mech is lost or the enemy is killed.

Remember that a battle is fluid, things are constantly changing. Keep things simple and use very basic tactics. Complex plans will never work. This is the nature of battle. I will add a very simple tactic that has worked in the past as an example..

       Symbiosis

        This is a Wolverine classic.

Two mechs circle a single enemy, bouncing and constantly bombarding it with missiles. The object is to never let the enemy get it's balance. Time your shots with your wingman so that a missile salvo will always be in the air. SRM's or Streaks work great for this. You would be amazed how many battles we have won with this simple tactic. New tactics need to be developed for the MW4 engine, but always keep them simple.
